What is Resume?
A Resume is a brief document which highlights relevant information about your individual experience, qualification and skills. Resume gives you the introduction in the interview. It is documentary information about your Education, Experience and skills relevant to the field of work you are entering. A properly constructed, professional appearing resume opens doors and provides prospects for job interviews and for call-back interviews.
In addition, a high-quality resume requires a concise, professionally written cover letter in which the prospective job seeker briefly explains his or her goals and expectations, education, work experience, interests, as well as his or her qualifications for the position in question. You need to rewrite your resume when your career goals or fields changes. So writing resume is a life long process.
Resume Content
Resume is nothing but a collection of evidence, contains all mandatory information that includes workhistory with description, dates, specialization, education etc. A good resume shows how you will perform in the desired feature job. Your resume should represent your best abilities truthfully. Employers do not have the luxury to spend more than a minute of their time reading your resume. It must be eye-catching, short and brief. The purpose of your resume is to get you in the job.
Basic Procedure
Procedure is a specified series of action or operations which have to be executed in the same manner in order to always obtain the same result. How to begin writing your resume depends on your desired career objective. There are various patterns and styles from where you can select and eventually prepare a neatly drafted resume. If you are trying to shift from one career to the other, that particular aspect should also be mentioned precisely, so that your prospective employer can notice it. Doesn't matter how extraordinary you are. Place all your evidence in the second half of the resume. Put your hot stuff(strength) in the beginning.
Objective
Your objective should be clear, well-defined and short-not more than 10-12 words.. It should be aimed towards getting a particular position in a specific industry. Thus your objective should talk about the following:
- 1. Position wanted
- 2. Functional area
- 3. Industry wanted
Summary
It is a good idea to include a summary of your resume after having mentioned your objective. Summary gives you an opportunity to highlight your strength. The summary should consist of 4-5 specific points-either bulleted or in one paragraph.
The "Summary" or "Summary of Qualifications" consists of several concise statements that focus the reader's attention on the most important qualities, achievements and abilities you have to offer.
